...I adopted Rose AKA Layla. Sorry that it has been so long but I wanted to let you know how she was doing. She is getting so big and the vet thinks that she is a mix of a pit bull and lab. She seems to finally have decided to potty trained and she is losing her baby teeth. Her and my older dog get along so well, it's so much fun to watch them wrestle. I attached a couple of photos of her. Thank you so much.

Zeke has always
been very friendly (just as he was when I got him from you as a puppy). He
loves all people and all dogs, but he’s not too excited about cats. He
likes to chase them, though. He’s 87 pounds now, and he goes to puppy
daycare two or three times a week. He runs the house… a big yard to play
in, and he sleeps in bed with me every night. Well, actually he lays at
the food of the bed… not a snuggler. More times than not, he’ll wait until
I’m almost asleep and then sleeps the rest of the night under the bed. He
doesn’t usually stay in the crate, but he does have his favorite places to
lay around.
We walk twice a day (once a day when he goes to daycare). He loves riding in the car, and he’s actually very good when riding. He does many tricks, and he’s graduated from two different obedience classes.
He’s the best dog ever!!!! Thanks for saving him when he was a puppy! |

I
just want to share our story with you. Many years ago we adopted a
little dog from Save-a-Life. At that time, the pet adoption was being held
in front of the Wal-Mart at Chatham Plaza, and I just happened to be
passing by that Saturday. I saw this adorable little Jack Russell
Terrier/Beagle mix (?) and fell in love. However, I wasn't sure that Hubby
would feel the same way...so I went home without Clancy. By the next
day, I'd convinced the rest of the family that we just HAD to get this
little dog. I called Ms. Friedman and we made arrangements to pick him up
from her home at the Landings. That was November 18, 1990! When we
took Clancy to our Vet the next week, he estimated that Clancy was already
at least a year old -- maybe more -- and that would make him 19 now!
Believe it or not, Clancy is still going strong! We call him our
little Energizer Bunny. He just keeps going and going. He's slowed
down a little over years and no longer jumps from the floor up onto the
couch or the chairs. (He has his own set of stairs.) He still loves
to ride in the car and eagerly goes with us. I can't begin to tell
you how much we love this little dog and the joy he has brought into our
lives all these years. Here are some pictures of Clancy.

I just wanted to give you guys an update on
Fletcher, the Lab mix puppy I adopted last saturday. He is an angel. He
chews everything, but is really well behaved otherwise. I love his
companionship and hope his brother, Gage, gets adopted soon. I've
wanted a Lab for 7 years and Fletcher is more than I had hoped for. Thanks
so much,
Katie. |

I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know
that Dixie is adjusting beautifully. We did our first basic training
class and she was wonderful. She is slowly adjusting to the dog next
door or should I say the dog next door is adjusting to her (Maggie thinks
she is the protector of Morgan so there has been a little conflict of
territory). Dixie has had fun chasing the deer out of our yard and
she cornered herself a 13.5 inch long (measured the shell only) snapping
turtle a couple of days ago. She follows me around all day and
sometimes has trouble deciding whether or not she wants to be with me,
Morgan or Cloudwalker and she ends up pacing from room to room.

After losing our wonderful Toy Poodle
'Candy' (a rescue girl and my husband's shadow) to cancer 8 years ago and
our home now down to three Poodles (you can never have just one) we felt a
hole in our hearts and a space in our bed. After grieving for a
period of time I decided to start looking, there were many Poodles for
adoption but one little girl named Gigi all the way down in Savannah GA
caught my eye. She had special eyes that spoke to us, I called and
they told me that someone had already inquired about Gigi and was ready to
adopt her and that anyway we lived so far away in Massachusetts and they
did not adopt that far away. I think I cried and broke down on the
phone, the lady said she was sorry, I left my number anyway as I felt the
little girl should be with us. A couple of days later we got the
call, my husband flew straight down there and got her, she flew
back first class with him holding her. We paid $150 donation fee at
that time several years ago, Gigi has since required Cruciate Ligament
surgery in both back legs totalling over $3200. It was the best
$150 we ever spent! She is the boss, loves my husband so so much and
I come in a sloppy second. She will be 12 years old this year and
those eyes did not let me down, we knew she was meant for
us. Our Poodles are our family, they go everywhere with us including
vacations, they have never been apart from us for even one night.
Thank you Save-A-Life for taking the chance and
adopting to us out of state, we have not let you down, she is truly loved
and well cared for. We have added to our Poodle family since, so
Gigi has four other brothers and sisters, but they all know she is
Daddies girl.
Thank you for trusting us.

When we first brought Blizzard home we hoped
that Smokey, our Sheltie would be okay with her. Well they get along
GREAT! As you can see by the photo they sleep together. They do have their
little skirmishes but its usually over the Frisbee(Smokey's FAVORITE toy).
Other than that they are becoming the best of friends. And Blizzard is
also becoming my kids new best friend! Thank you for saving Blizzard and
her siblings. She will have a long and happy life here with us!
The O'Dell Family
Just wanted to drop you a line and tell you that
Blizzard is doing wonderfully! She was spayed May 6th. She graduated from
Obedience school recently too. She has fit right into our family and
stolen our hearts. Here is an updated photo for the Where are we now?
page. She is enjoying her pool on a hot GA day!
Thanks again for such a wonderful little
girl!

Brady is doing great and he is adored by
everyone. He's settled into a routine and is eating well. He follows
me around all day while I'm doing stuff around the house and loves to ride
in the car to pick up my boys from school. He also waits with me at the
bus stop for my daughter. When I do have to leave him to run an
errand, he stays in the house and sits by the door until I come
back.
He loves to come outside and watch the kids ride
their bikes and he's introduced himself to some of our neighbors and their
dogs. He also loves to sit on the couch and just hang out with our family.
When we go for walks outside he usually brings his squeaky skunk in his
mouth. Both of my cats are used to him now and Brady just looks at
them in amusement. At night Brady comes with me to tuck all the kids
in---then he stays in my daughters' room until she falls asleep. He
ends up sleeping with my husband and me.
We're just so thankful that you saved such a
great dog.

The adoption went great! It was so neat to
have people come up to us and congratulate us on our adoption of the girls
as we were walking through PetSmart with them.
They are both doing great! We kept them in
the bathroom in our bedroom for the first 24 hrs they were home with
us. I put their bed, food bowls and litter box in there with
them. Today after the children got off to school, I let them out to
explore. There has been some hissing and spitting between my other
two cats and Winnie and Jet, but I have just been giving love and
reassurance to all the girls and I know they will eventually work
everything about between the four of them. Jett seems to be a little
more confident than Winnie right now, but they both doing well.
Winnie is quite the talker, but I think that is so sweet. I
have enjoyed watching them explore our home. I am excited for the
day that they feel truly at home here.
Thank you for allowing me to adopt
them! |

While at PetsMart three years
ago, my daughter spotted an adorable Yorkie shopping with her owner.
Knowing I had always wanted a Yorkie, my daughter would have nothing more
but for us to go ask if we could pet the dog. Imagine my surprise
that when we caught up with the woman, she was actually handing her dog,
Cleo, over to Save-A-Life! The dog owner asked the Save-A-Life
representative to give the dog to us, but had already signed the papers so
it wasn't her decision. Oddly enough, we had a hamster at the same
time named Cleo and that was why we were in PetsMart. We applied to
adopt Cleo and were called within a week. Cleo is the smartest,
sweetest, and most spoiled dog we have ever known. She goes with us
everywhere. We moved to Michigan over the summer and she loves the
snow! She loves to "chase" the squirrels and deer that are outside
our fence. Thank you Save-A-Life!

We adopted Abigail in 2001 after our beloved
Save-A-Life Beagle, Doright, and our beloved Save-A-Life Lab mix, Patrick
went over the Rainbow Bridge. We moved to Southwest Florida several
years ago, and Abby has adapted well the the Florida lifestyle. We live on
the water, which gives her many opportunities to make her presence known
to boaters as the pass by the house. Actually, she will gladly offer her
opinion to whomever is within earshot. She also likes to lay by the
pool, although she does not like to get in. This is strange, since she is
half Cockapoo! Like all dogs, she has here very set routines, which
includes staring at me in the morning until I finally give up, and get out
of bed for her morning walk. I am attaching pictures of all three
dogs so that all can see what fine friends we got from Save-A-Life. Best Wishes and Thanks for the wonderful job you do! Chris and Bob Dudley

My husband and I adopted our first pet together
in November of 2006.
the moment we saw her curled up in a ball in her cage we knew she was the one for us! We had a couple of names for her, but found that she resonds to Kitty better...so her name is Kitty! She can be very playful and extreamly curious. She loves laser pointers, cat nip, and rolling on her back. My husband and I are are going to Petsmart tomorrow morning to adopt another kitty! Thank you Save A Life! Mary

Hi! I adopted my best friend 5 years ago
thru Save - A - Life and she is my pride and joy. I have a wonderful
story to share with you.
Just the other day, Gracie and I were reminiscing about how sad she was in the shelter and how happy she was when I came to take her home. Although it was a happy time, we were both saddened by the many others we had to leave behind. This year she had a great idea! She told Santa about their flight and she has promised to lead his sleigh to the "Island of Misfit and Unwanted Dogs". Don't forget to be on the lookout for her this Christmas! Delores

...Saul is just such a goof ball he is so clumsy
we love him and he loves the baby. He slept on the couch last night cause
he was to lazy to get up and come to the bedroom. But when i woke him to
go outside this morning afterwards he came in and went strait to the
bed to cuddle with holly. He is just a big ole snuggly bear. We decided to
name him bruno but saul is going to be his middle name..lol We just took a
couple pics and attached sorry the bed looks so sloppy but we use him
as an ecuse not to make it.lol He is taking to the leash alot better than
i thought he would but when im walking him if he decides he is done
walking before we make it back to the house than he just plops down. He is
such a added joy to our family, we will never be able to thank you enough!
Now we will never have a dull moment in our house.
Thank you again

Hi Julie!
Just wanted to give you an update on Duncan...we
had some transition issues the first couple of nights...I didn't get a
wink of sleep because he meowed all night! By Monday though, he was
good to go. He's been a perfect cat so far..very friendly toward
people who are visiting, affectionate and he's got a pretty fun
personality. I think he likes me pretty well, considering he follows
me all over my apartment. It's really cute! I have some fish
as well and Duncan just loves to sit by their tank and watch them
swim. I was worried at first, but he hasn't tried to get them, so
I'm thinking it'll be ok.
I'm attaching some pictures of him lounging
around! Hope you enjoy!

Well, it's been a week now...and I can't imagine
life without this wonderful pup!! She has really blossomed - she's
gaining confidence every day.... exploring the house, greeting the
neighbors on our walks, and giving the best snuggles imaginable. Her
friend 'Wilbur', the Springer Spaniel came to visit for a few days, and
tonight she meets 'Bosco' my brother-in-laws dog, who will be staying at
the house for a couple of nights. She has a VERY busy social calendar!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for saving this little angel Kimberly |

A few months ago we adopted Twigely as our new
companion from save a life. I had recently become ill and believed
that a new friend was just what I needed to brighten up my every day, and
was I ever right. I decided to surf the net to see if there
were any local places to adopt, when I came across the web site
for save a life. I looked around a bit before deciding on a meeting with
Twigely. He was a little skeptical of us at first, but within about an
hour or two, we couldn't keep him off of our laps! He is now our best
friend for life. We look forward to many more years of joy and fun with
our little angel. Not only did we save his life, but he has also saved
ours! I want to say thanks to all of you at save a life. Without
you we wouldn't have our loving friend.

I adopted my dog Winston (when we got him his
name was Bobby) from PetSmart last September. We have just
reached the year mark so i thought i would write and tell you how much i
have enjoyed him. I am 23 years old and have never had a dog, so
shortly after buying a house last August we bought Winston for me.
He came home with us and instantly adjusted to life with us. He was
already house trained and very affectionate. My husband travels
every week, so Winston is a wonderful companion for me. I
was about to buy a dog, but i decided to adopt one instead. Our
experience with Save-A-Life was such a positive experience and i love
everyday i get to spend with Winston. He travels with us everywhere
and sleeps in the bed with us every night. We often get asked
what kind of dog he is and where did we get him. We always happily
say the wonderful people at Save-A-LIfe. Thank you for all of your
great work and for providing with a dog better than i could have
imagined.

Roy and I adopted our Buck (then CJ), a Jack
Russel mix, from Save-a-Life last Spring. We got off to a rocky
start, Buck has some trouble being left alone, but we stuck it out and we
are so happy that we did. Our little guy is so smart and loving! He
is a little cuddle bunny with me, and a rough & tough
wrestler with his dad. He sleeps with us every night under the
covers, and is such a joy to have around. He is so friendly,
everyone just adores him. He loves a good plush toy, especially the
ones with squeakers. I can't imagine our lives without him! Thank you so
much for giving us our baby!

About a year and a half ago I
adopted a terrier mix puppy from save-a-life. From his earliest days in
our home it was very obvious that he knew he was in charge. I decided to
name him after another tough guy, Dennis Hopper. He is affectionately
known as Hopper, which is also fitting because dare devil leaps are one of
his favorite pastimes. We could not be happier to have our
little assertive buddy, but I often wondered about his mother and his
other litter mates. It is wonderful to know that Hopper has a happy
home, but I was very happy to see the adoption notice for his mother
"Lucy" as well. I know that his brothers and sisters are just as
happy! Save-a -life is a great organization. |

Back in 1994, I adopted a very
sweet well trained poodle/terrier mix dog named Ginger. She was
about 14 months old when I adopted her from Save A Life. She was my Mom's
and my special baby and she knew she ruled the house. My Mom died in
April 1996. I had retired so it was just Ginger and me. Then
on August 15 2003, Ginger got really sick so I took her to her
doctor. He said her pancreas had ruptured and she was in a lot
of pain. He said I should put her down. I had to give her up. I was
devastated. I waited eight months and told my family since my
birthday was in April, I had decided to get me another dog. I called
Save a Life and Lark called me on April 9. She told me she had
someone looking for a home for a three year old Yorkie. I went to
Pet Smart on April 10, 2004 and there was Corky, 8 pounds of pure,
beautiful love. I adopted him and he is the sweetest thing and is my
baby boy. I am sorry his owner had to give him up but I am glad we
found each other because of Save A Life. |
